Hi I’m Josh from eSpares. I will explain how to install a dishwasher and you will see that in many cases a plumber will not be needed. However, we do appreciate that many people will still wish to engage a plumber to do this work, to ensure it was done properly. The consequences of an incorrect installation in flooding a kitchen should not be underestimated.
In my YouTube video (see above) I’m going to show you how to install a dishwasher. Now in this case I’m using an integrated dishwasher but the process should be fairly similar for most dishwasher models.
Obviously if you’re looking to remove the dishwasher you can just follow this process in the reverse order. Now before I begin installing the dishwasher I’ve prepared the space that it is going into by clearing any blockages or pipes.
And also I’ve made sure that the cavities is actually big enough to take the dishwasher. Now there are three things you need to install. You need a power supply a water supply and a drain:
Power Supply: In the case of the power supply I’ve passed the dishwasher power cable into an adjacent cupboard where there’s a socket.
Water Supply: For the water supply that’s found here under the sink. I’ve turned the water supply off and screwed one end of the cold water hose onto the water supply here. And I’ve passed it through a hole in the bottom of the cupboard out through the cavity to here. This is where I can screw it on at the back at the dishwasher. Finally, I’m not going to turn the water supply back on just yet to check that there aren’t any leaks, because we must not forget to connect the drain pipe first.
Drainage Connection: I’ve passed the drain hose from the back at the dishwasher up through the same hole in the bottom of the cupboard. I’m just going to pull through the loose hose.
Now I can start to slide the dishwasher back into the cavity making sure that I don’t catch any of the pipes or hoses on the way. Now I’ve got the dishwasher in place I can pull through the remaining loose drain hose And now I need to attach the drain hose to this drain spigot here.
Now if you’re installing a dishwasher for the first time it’s likely than drain spigot will be blocked off at one end. It maybe at this end where it’s conical and you need to cut the pipe so that it’s the right thickness as your drain hose. Or it may be blocked at this end by some sort of cap in which case obviously you need to remove that. And once that spigot is completely clear for water to pass through you can screw that up onto the the drain connection and then we recommend using some sort of clip placed over the drain hose just to hold it firmly in place.
And you can then attach that to the drain spigot. Now it’s important to set the drain hose as high as possible to stop water from draining from the sink into the dishwasher. So if you are getting that problem just repositioned the height of the drain hose. And now I’ve got all the connections in place I just need to adjust the feet on the bottom of the dishwasher so that it sits flush with the rest to the cabinets. And that’s it, One dishwasher installed. Spares for dishwashers and other appliances are available on the eSpares website.
What Others Are Saying About How to Install a Dishwasher
Dishwashers can come into all sorts of trouble. Plumbing clogs are another huge problem…from an inadequate rinse cycle that soap scum on your dishes to a puddle of water at the bottom of the dishwasher. If your hot water heating isn’t running properly, you may not have sufficiently hot water to wash your dishes or you may be needlessly wasting energy and money. Meanwhile, an electrical problem can cut power to the unit altogether. Dishwasher repair is all too common and too commonly a huge headache for homeowners. Whether your problem is small or large, we can help you find someone in your area who can fix your dishwasher or, if needed, install a new one for you.
The first thing you’ll want to do is check the easy stuff. Few things are as embarrassing as having an appliance repairman come to your home only to flip a switch and watch the dishwasher start up. Check all switches, plugs, and circuit breakers. This includes wall switches and selection options on your dishwasher panel. If the dishwasher is running but isn’t draining right or getting your dishes clean, look for any clogs in easy to access pipes and valves. If you think your water is running fine, but the dishes still aren’t getting clean, check your hot water system as well. Cold water often won’t get your dishes clean. If you’ve checked out these simple things and your dishwasher still isn’t functionally properly, it’s time to call in a professional. via
As the dishwasher is moved under the counter, pull the drain hose slack out to ease the installation process. Once the dishwasher is in place, then connect the drain hose to the plumbing. If the drain hose does not plug into an aerator, it would be a good idea to create a loop. A loop keeps water from flowing from the sink back to the dishwasher. A loop is simply routing the drain hose as high as possible in one area, higher than the bottom of the sink. Tie straps come in handy here.
Installation of a dishwasher might become a very complicated “do it yourself” project. This type of house appliances is a combination of a few totally different systems – water, electricity, heat and steam are joined together, and any little error can cause safety issues. This article’s goal is to build a methodological approach to the installation of the dishwasher.
– The water line. In older buildings and houses copper pipes are often used to provide water supply for the dishwasher. These pipes have limited mobility (if you need to pull a dishwasher out of the cabinet for service or repairs, most probably you will end up disconnecting the water pipe), the connectors tend to leak (especially if you disconnect the water line and connect it back more than once). via AppFix
Quite often, the unsung hero of any home is the domestic boiler. It plays an almost invisible role in our lives, producing hot water and heating on demand, whenever we need it. They come in all shapes and sizes, some even sporting hi-tech interfaces that can communicate with you through an app on your phone. However, it still remains one of those functional areas of the household that we regularly take for granted – that is, until something goes wrong. If you’ve ever suffered the misfortune of having to endure a wintery evening without warm radiators or a choice of water temperatures, you’ll soon develop a newfound respect for these unassuming metal boxes that live in the airing cupboard.
Top Northwest gas & plumbing expert, Danny Heald, from Heald Services understands the panic caused when the boiler suddenly goes on the blink. “Usually most boilers are relatively simple to fix depending on the age of the appliance and how well it has been serviced. What we would normally do is give people a three point checklist just before they call out the engineer – which would be: Is there power to the appliance, has the fuse spur been knocked off? This can especially happen when the boiler’s installed in a confined space, such as an airing cupboard.
Also, we would also ask:
are the external controls, asking for heat, and
is your programmer switched on,
is your room thermostat switched up?
And then finally, we’d ask, have you got gas to the appliance, has the meter been knocked?
If you’ve got a prepayment meter, have you got sufficient credit on that meter?
The biggest problem we do have is with older appliances when they break down, if manufacturers no longer supply parts for that boiler, even the most simple mechanical repair can result in replacing that appliance.”
When considering boiler replacement, there are many options on the market, which at first glance can seem overwhelming.
But, if your boiler does need replacing, in reality you only have three different types to choose from. Number one. Conventional boilers have a traditional heating mechanism and a separate cylinder to store the hot water. They need a cold water tank in the loft to refill the cylinder and also another tank to help maintain the pressure in the radiators. They’re good if you have frequently used, multiple bathrooms or an older style radiator system requiring low water pressure.
Number two. System boilers, on the other hand, are a more modern alternative, combining more of the heating components within the boiler itself. They still require a cylinder to store hot water but you can choose a pressurised cylinder which eradicates the need for separate cold water tanks. Number three. The biggest space savers are the Combi type boiles. They don’t require any separate tanks as they take their water supply directly from the mains supply and provide almost unlimited instant hot water.
The downside, however, is that they can struggle with large or high demand households so tend to suit smaller properties and apartments. They can also be expensive to install if you’re converting from an older system. The boiler that’s right for you really depends on your situation and your budget. “The cheapest option would be a like for like swap as this just involves changing one boiler for the new unit. Prices for such systems from between £1800 to £3000. Er, a modern ‘system’ boiler and pressurised cylinder would be the ideal choice for a larger dwelling with multiple bathrooms and high hot water demand. Prices for this type of system range from around £5000 to state of the art systems like this behind me, being onwards and upwards on £15,000.”
The other factor to consider is the impact a boilers quality and condition can have when listing a property for sale on the market.
Most buyers, when viewing properties, will usually make some kind of enquiry as to the state of the current boiler. “It’s question we get asked time and time again from people viewing properties and there are good reasons for that, with the cost of replacing a boiler or a central heating system potentially running into the thousands. Many people view the good working order of the boiler and the central heating system, er, to be a good general measure of how well the property has been looked after by the current owners.
Most people will take those costs into consideration when making an offer on a property and so as an estate agent we think it’s always worthwhile having your boiler serviced prior to listing the property and of course sharing that service history with us. Obviously, having a brand new boiler or central heating system can also be a great selling point.
If you’re a buyer and you’ve got any concerns about the costs of repairing or replacing the heating system, don’t forget to raise those with your agent.” We’re always here to help and we have access to a whole network of high quality local experts who can give you the best advice for any situation that could occur with the boiler or heating system.
Choosing a Boiler for your home is not difficult. The following list are features that you may want to look for when buying your Boiler.
1. What type of Boiler do you want? Will it be Gas or Electric?
The Gas Boiler
A gas Boiler is always more affordable to use than the electric Boiler where gas is readily available. On the downside, burning fuel generates fumes. In well-maintained gas Boilers, the fumes generated are enclosed in the heat exchanger and then exit the house through an exhaust vent.
Remember, a gas Boiler should be checked by a certified Gas-Safe professional once a year. A plumbing and heating engineer should check the Boiler for penetrations, leaks or cracks. At worst a break or crack in the boiler body may let carbon monoxide escape and seep into the rooms around it.
An Electric Boiler Sysem – is Often Known As a Water Heater or Immersion Heater And Separate Space Heating
The electric Boiler has a higher cost than a gas Boiler. On the upside, since electric Boilers do not use flames, it does not generate any carbon monoxide. The electric Boiler is cleaner and safer than a gas Boiler.
2. The Quality of the Boiler
The quality of the boiler determines how long and how well it will perform. Choosing a brand of boiler that has a history of quality and reliability can be less costly in the long run. Ask your contractor about which brand will be optimal for your needs. A free estimate for the purchase and installation are available in some companies.
3. The Efficiency of the Boiler
The efficiency of gas boilers are determined by the AFUE or Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency ratings. The AFUE rating identifies how efficiently is the fuel being consumed. In most cases, a higher AFUE rating means it takes less fuel to heat your home.
Gas Boilers with higher ratings cost more than those with lower ratings but may save you more money down the road. A minimum rating of 78% is established by the government in the 1990s. Many boilers have an efficiency rating of about 60% prior to 1992.
a. The Mid-Efficiency Boilers
The mid-efficiency boilers are also called ‘induces draft Boilers’ or ‘non-condensing boilers’. The mid-efficiency Boiler offers the bare minimum of 78% efficiency up to about 80%.
b. The High-Efficiency Boilers
The high-efficiency boilers are also known as ‘condensing Boilers’ or ‘sealed combustion boilers’. The high-efficiency Boilers has an AFUE rating as high as 96%. Some Boilers use a two-stage valve and an efficient variable-speed motor to raise comfort and effectiveness.
4. The Comfort Features of Boilers
Several Boilers provide features that increases comfort and efficiency.
a. The features of the two-speed Boiler
The Boiler can function at low speed for most of the time. It allows for a more quieter operation for a longer amount of time compared to a ‘single-speed Boiler’. The longer run periods allow for fewer start/stop cycles, less drafts, and very little temperature variance.
The temperature swing is limited to about two degrees compared to the four degree variance of the single-speed units. The two-speed unit gives better circulation which prevents warmer air from rising and the cooler air from settling down. The two-speed unit gives a more consistent temperature in the house.
b. The features of variable-capacity Boilers
Boilers with variable capacity provide a combination of efficiency and comfort. A variable-capacity boiler has a motor that regulates your needs by automatically adjusting air volume and speed. The var-cap Boiler provides the most efficient heating and cooling.
A fan comes with the var-cap Boiler. The fan will reduce your cost during summer. If the fan is used throughout summer, the central air conditioning unit increases in efficiency.
5. The Boiler noise level
Unfortunately, all boilers do not come with a standard rating system for sound unlike heat pumps and air conditioners. Although, two-speed units and var-cap units generally operate at a low noise levels.
The two-speed and var-cap Boilers run for longer periods and lower sounds than the standard unit. Certain var-cap units has features that prevent ‘creaking’ of the ducts due to expansion and contraction caused by changing temperature. The temperature differential is reduced so that the creaking noise is also almost eliminated. Copied with permission from: http://plrplr.com

– plumbers in Shrewsbury
– plumbing contractors in Shrewsbury
– Shrewsbury plumbing and heating engineers
– Shropshire plumbing engineers
– kitchen and plumbing installation in Shropshire.

Why? It’s because so many people make the big mistake of looking up plumbers in newspaper ads who have no local experience or testimonials.
Why is it important to understand this? It is important to you Because – you have a tight budget, and a busy life and can’t spend a long time waiting for a plumber to arrive.
If you are the type of person who is one of so many people who don’t have any knowledge of home plumbing, it is all about to get easier.
Here are 5 Ways to help you be able to know where to find a trustworthy plumber…
The Best Ways to Find the Plumber You Need
This is important because some plumbers will not be sufficiently trained and experienced to solve you problem.
You will benefit from this most – if you are clear about the work you need to have done and the result you are seeking.
Great. So what now? You ought to take the next step. This is to get on the phone and make an appointment with a local plumbing company.
The best heat pump installation plumbers are highly skilled and fast in resolving issues when it comes to water heaters. The most common types are Conventional, Tankless, and Hybrid Heat Pump. If there is a fault or an issue, the pump will be repaired. In the case of a major damage, installation of a new water heater is advisable.
The most common plumbing problem in the household is with the taps. Poor quality taps and improper fitting can affect the tap or valve and make it leak. The plumber will first inspect the tap type. Three main categories of taps are disc, cartridge, ball-compression. If the damage is minor, the leaking tap can often be repaired with an O-Ring else there is a problem with the sealant, the job is tedious and requires replacement of the inlet.. Always Check the Tradesman’s Qualifications to ensure You Appoint an Affordable Shropshire Plumber
Are You willing to ask your potential plumber about his qualifications and if appropriate o see his/ her Gas-Safe Certificate? If so – you will get a huge benefit from this.
The reason you should consider this is because a novice plumber is unlikely to be able to provide a good job.
The best action you can take is to get over any shyness and be bold enough to ask about your future plumbers qualifications and expereince.
The most important thing to look for when choosing a plumber is their accreditations. Their certifications will determine the work they are able to carry out.
Being approved by other organisations such as SAFEcontractor, CIPHE, NICEIC, Which? Trusted Trader and CHAS, is also a clear mark that tradesmen are legitimate and are able to carry out your required plumbing work.
Make Sure the Plumber Can Arrive as Soon as You Need Him/ Her
Why is this important? Simple. Because if the problem is a leak, it may get worse, and cause more damage while you wait for the plumber to arrive
This will help you significantly if you are again willing to ask when the plumber can arrive, ans state you needs clearly.
What should you do next? Your next step is to make a number of phone calls to different plumbing companies.
When selecting a plumber, make sure you choose someone that will be there when the problem strikes, not days later after the damage is done. Not only does handling a problem quickly mean less damage – it also means less money spent on the repair itself.
One of the best things about living in the Shrewsbury and Telford community is how well plugged-in the people are around us. When someone receives poor or excellent plumbing service, they will often write about it online. Do yourself a favor and be sure to check out what other people are saying about any plumber you’re considering. Beyond that, check out how the plumber responds to the negative reviews. Are they willing and trying to make amends with unhappy customers? Often, the reaction is just as important as the initial review – after all, mistakes happen, but a true professional will make them right.
You need to pay attention to this because some plumbers will promise to travel a large distance, but not know where best to buy spare parts quickly to complete the job.
You will get more from this if you are alert to the dangers of engaging a plumber who lives too far away.
Here is what you should consider doing next… You should make a phone call and ask intelligent questions.
Find out if they do regular plumbing work in your area. It’s always best if someone local to your area can fix the problem, that way they can quickly carry out any revisits. Remember also that your plumber can be a valuable asset to know over time; it’s important to have someone you can depend on to turn up at short notice for any future plumbing issues you might have.
The Wisdom of Getting Three Different Quotes for Any Medium to Large Plumbing Job
Why is this important? It is because by getting three quotes you will be much more likely to spot a quote which is too low to allow the tradesman enough time to do a decent job, or a high cost/ low value quote.
You’ll get a lot more out of this if you are realistic about the cost. A price which looks too good to be true probably is a poor choice to choose.
The best “next step” you should take with this is to Get three quotes from different companies.
With so much information out there it may seem that you are spoilt for choice, but make the wrong choice and you could end up with a ‘cowboy’. You have to trust the information that is provided. Plumbing Repairs Toilets 1 – How to Fix a Clogged Toilet
The perennial problem of a clogged toilet, happens to all of us. What do you mean when you say a toilet is clogged?
The indication of a clogged toilet is when water level comes up higher than normal after each flushing. In this case the water was rising almost to the bottom of the rim. Water levels should never be as high as that.
The first choice of a plumber would be, to use a plunger to free up any obstruction/ blockage down below in the drain pipe. What kind of plunger should you use? Basically the best tool is a plain old-fashioned plunger. We’re looking for a rubber plunger with a solid wooden handle.
There are others on the market that are plastic, and look more like an accordion. We don’t recommend those. Similarly, we don’t recommend the plunger type that just has an the orange cup.
This preferred plunger type is kind of a dual-purpose tool. You could use it for a sink, a bathroom sink, a kitchen sink, etc. But if this attachment is visible, when you pull this part out, that’s for a toilet bowl.
So, we have a good plunger. Now, what we want to do is insert our plunger into the toiletin the correct way.
Stand up. You want to be right over the top of the toilet bowl.
The action to take is to push down first. The plunger works when you pull it back, not by pushing it down. You want to pull back strongly, this will help to clear the obstruction.
Push down, draw back. Push down again, and pull back. Now you’ll see the water start to go down rapidly. That means that the job is done.
Give the toilet a test by flushing it again.
Tip: It’s really good idea to have a plastic bag handy nearby while you do this. When finished take the plunger, put it in the plastic bag, and you’re not going to carry the water dripping all over the house.
There you are you now know about one of the most frequent plumbing repairs to toilets, and you’ll soon be an expert on how to fix a clogged & Leaky Toilets, because that’s all it takes to clear a toilet in 90% of the jobs we do.
Plumbing Repairs Toilets 2 – How to Fix a Leaky Toilet
I’m talking to you today about plumbing and specifically how to fix a leaky toilet.
Okay a few tools you’re going to need for yourself: First of all you’re going to need a pair of pliers, an open-end wrench, a screwdriver, and something to scrape with, because we’re going to be scraping some wax seal, and you may also need a chisel.
Alright, now we’re going to shut the water off. What we want to do is shut-off valve the water supply to the toilet flush cistern first. It is here. We want to turn it to the right, right is tight, and closes-off the flow.
Now we’re going to pop the caps off the base of the toilet. Basically you need to take the blade of the screwdriver and you just try to turn it so that it pops up.
Now we’re going to back the nuts off that hold the toilet to the flange. We have an adjustment wrench, we’re going to take this nut, we’re going to back it off, couple of turns, you want to take these off and when you have done that, to set these to the side.
Alright, so just for the sake of the safety benefit of a lighter thing to lift, I move the tank cover and I set this aside. That way, I don’t need to lift this as well, when I lift the toilet up off the floor.
Next thing I want to do, is take the water out of the bowl, and you can do it a couple of different ways. You can take a sponge, and empty it into a bucket, you can use one of our bilge-pumps that they have for small boats. Now we’re going to lift the toilet up off the flange, and we’re going to set it down on the floor.
Make sure you have something to set the toilet down on, like a big old beach towel that you don’t ever want to see again.
Lifting is something you need to be really careful of, this is a very awkward object despite the fact that it is not that heavy.
Now you can see, that I’ve straddled the toilet, getting my whole body over the centre of it.
I’m standing over the toilet, I’m in the centre of it, I’m going to get it straight then I’m going to rock it back and forth a little bit, then I’m going to lift it straight up.
Now I go backwards, onto my rag.
Alright, all done. Now we’re going to scrape the wax off the bottom of the toilet, and I’m going to scrape the wax off the flange.
Scrape it right off, and drop it onto a paper towel. Now we’re going to put new wax on the flange.
Okay so what I have here is a wax doughnut, we use them to set toilets, they come sealed in a package.
So you want to put wax on top, and you want to mold it a little bit into shape, so that it fits the surface, and because this is already at room temperature it’s a lot more pliable to use. Now I’m going to take the bolts that come through the floor and make sure they’re aiming straight up.
So now we’re going to re-set the toilet, and we want to get the toilet as close to our work as we can without dragging it across the floor, so be really careful about that.
Let it compress all the way down to the floor. We want to give it a little bit of movement, nice and solid.
Next, we snap on this plastic decorative cap so you don’t see the hardware.
Alright, that’s done. The last step is to test the repaired leaky toilet by flushing it once again. Here we go, we’re going to connect the water back from the supply to the tank.
Put it on the fill-valve nut, give it half a turn, that should be enough. Now we flush and test it and there should be no leaks this time. If so, and the floor remains dry, that means that the job is done.
